Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, has signed the N1.62 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to accelerating development across all sectors of the state.

Speaking at the signing ceremony held at the Executive Chamber, Government House, Enugu, on Wednesday, Mbah commended members of the Enugu State House of Assembly for their swift and thorough consideration of the budget and assured residents that implementation would begin immediately.

Under the approved budget, N1.296 trillion—representing 80 per cent of the total outlay—has been allocated to capital expenditure, while N321.3 billion, or 20 per cent, is earmarked for recurrent expenditure.

This maintains the administration’s capital-focused budgeting approach, following the 79:21 ratio in 2024 and 86:14 in 2025.

Sectoral allocations show that the Economic Sector received the highest share at N825.9 billion, accounting for 51 per cent of the budget. The Social Sector follows with N644.7 billion (40.1 per cent), while the Administration, Justice, and Regional sectors received N128 billion, N15.8 billion, and N2 billion respectively.

Mbah said the budget was anchored on inclusivity, accountability, transparency, traceability, and strong institutions to ensure value for money. He expressed confidence that the N870 billion IGR target was achievable through discipline, innovation, and hard work.

 

The governor added that his long-term vision was to make FAAC allocations a reserve for future generations, noting that federal allocations would account for only about 27–28 per cent of expected revenue if projections are met.

 

However, Mbah cautioned that achieving the ambitious IGR target would require relentless effort, urging government officials to remain fully committed.

 

Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Uchenna Ugwu, said early collaboration between the executive and legislature ensured a smooth, people-oriented budget process.
