Indigenes of Eha Amufu in Isi Uzo LGA of Enugu State have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene in the killings in the area.
In a march in Abuja on Friday, the indigenes who are taking refuge in the FCT, said the killings of the past few days in Ikpakpara, Agu-Amede, Mgbuji, and Abor had led to the death of over 130 indigenes and the closure of all schools, hospitals and churches in the areas, with thousands displaced.
The Chairman of the Eha Amufu Peoples Forum, Dr Ifeanyichukwu Casmir, said the attacks by the heavily armed militia suspected to be Fulani herdsmen on December 8, 18 and 19, might not be unconnected with purported plans to take over their ancestral lands due to the lithium and uranium deposits in the community.
He said, “It is pathetic that the Nigerian government has failed to take judicial and administrative notice of this ongoing ethnic cleansing.”
The people alleged that the GOC of 82 Division, Enugu, Maj Gen Umar Musa, had been uncooperative in dealing with the attacks and therefore appealed to the president to redeploy him.
