The Executive Chairman of Enugu North Local Government Area, Hon. Barr. Dr. Ibenaku Onoh, has unveiled a strategic training initiative designed to empower residents and solidify Enugu North LGA’s position as the undisputed heart of hospitality and tourism in Enugu State.

The event, which took place on Thursday, 4th September 2025, at the Enugu North LGA Council Headquarters, brought to bear the signing of a landmark agreement between the council and Lantana College of Hospitality.

Speaking during the event, the Head of School, Mrs. Kate Okoro, said the truce will ensure that residents of the council are trained in hospitality management, culinary skills, tourism services, and customer care excellence.

She stated that graduates of the programme will be strategically integrated into Enugu North’s thriving hospitality and tourism ecosystem, as the council hosts the state’s largest cluster of hotels, lounges, restaurants, cultural landmarks, and tourism experiences, making it the natural hub for this investment in skills and human capital.

Addressing stakeholders at the signing, the Council Chairman, Dr. Ibenaku Harford Onoh, stated that the initiative is not a blanket programme for the state but a deliberate policy for the people of Enugu North LGA, in line with the human capital development programmes of the State Government led by Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.

He also stated that while the programme aligns with the broader vision of His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, Governor of Enugu State, his administration is deliberately localizing that vision to maximize the advantages unique to Enugu North LGA.

“Enugu North LGA is the heart of Enugu’s hospitality and tourism sector. This programme is about preparing our residents to fully own and benefit from the opportunities that surround us here in this council. We are training our people to lead in the industries that define our local economy.”

“The State Government is laying the foundation for growth, but here in Enugu North we are building on that foundation with a focus on our comparative advantage — hospitality and tourism. Our people will no longer just be witnesses to growth, they will be active participants and beneficiaries.”
