Azumara, who represents the zone in the Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF), disclosed this on Thursday in Enugu when he visited the National Sports Commission (NSC) Zonal Co-ordinator, Dans Adokiye.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Anambra, Abia, Ebonyi, Imo and hosts Enugu make up the zone.

He said a 13-man committee to handle preparations for the tournament to be held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, had been set up.

He said the competition was aimed at preparing the boxers from the zone for the 17th National Sports Festival, tagged “Garden City Games’’ in Port Harcourt in February.

The committee will be headed by a former boxer, Ikechukwu Okoronkwo, while the Enugu State Boxing Association Secretary, Emma Nnaji, was named the committee’s secretary.

Former heavyweight fighter, Ngozika Ekwelum, heads the technical committee.

Adokiye assured the committee of the NSC’s preparedness to assist it in organising a successful competition. (NAN)
