Djinnit said this yesterday after concluding his second visit to Nigeria as the High-Level Representative of the Secretary-General to Nigeria.
During the visit, he held consultations on the abduction of schoolgirls and related issues with government officials, prominent Nigerian personalities including former Heads of State, civil society organizations, as well as regional and international partners.
He also presided over the finalising, with the United Nations Country Team in Nigeria, of a UN Integrated Support Package (ISP) in complement of Nigeria’s efforts towards securing the safe release of the abducted schoolgirls from Chibok and addressing the related challenges.
“The United Nations Country Team will work closely with Nigerian authorities as well as the affected communities in the implementation of the ISP,” he said.
In all his meetings with national stakeholders, the Special Representative stressed the role Nigeria has played in promoting regional peace and security and reaffirmed the commitment of the United Nations to its stability and the consolidation of its democratic achievements.
The envoy renewed the UN commitment to support on-going efforts by the government of Nigeria to secure the quick and safe release of all the abducted girls with the assistance of its partners.
