Enyimba won this competition back-to-back in 2003 and 2004, however, their performance in their last appearance in the competition in 2014 was woeful as they were eliminated in the first round by AS Real Bamako of Mali on the away goals’ rule after a 2-2 draw.
The people’s Elephants lost the first leg in Aba 2-1 and won in Bamako 1-0.
The Nigeria Federation Cup holders have taken part in this competition eight times, winning it twice in 2003 and 2004 and reaching the semifinals in 2008 and 2011.
‘The Aba based team resumed training late following a wage dispute, but they took part in expanded Super 4 as well as playing friendly games which include 4-0 bashing of fellow Premier League side Abia Warriors.
Enyimba goalkeeper Femi Thomas said they will be gunning for victory in Aba today.
“No easy game in football especially in on the continent and our aim is the- same – to progress from one stage to the other,” said the ex-Nigeria U20 shot stopper.
“We have our mind set on the game and we are not looking down on our opponents. We will go all out for victory. We want to take the team back to the summit in Africa where we belong.”
Enyimba still have in their fold Nigeria all-time top scorer Mfon Udoh to lead their attack as they seek to win their third CAF Champions League title.
