Epidemiological society holds confab on public health, research

The Epidemiological Society of Nigeria (EPISON) has held a conference on public health and research.

The confab which is also the 6th annual general meeting of the organisation has the theme “Epidemiological Transition: Implication for Public Health Intervention and Research”.

President and National Chairman of EPISON, Prof. Ayuba I. Zoakah, in his speech at the event held in Abuja, said the theme is not only topical but poses the challenges the Nigerian Epidemiologist faces daily in programme implementation and research.

Secretary  of the Local Organising Committee of the event, and Acting. Executive Secretary, FCT Primary Health Care Development Board, Dr. Matthew Ashikeni said experts that work in the field of epidemiology met to strategize and chart the way forward as well as check the incessant outbreak of diseases.

Acting. Secretary, Health and Human Services Secretariat, Mrs. Alice Odey-Achu, in her remarks, said the theme was apt in view of the emerging health challenges facing Nigeria. She said the FCT Administration is generally committed to preventing and mitigating diseases.
