Era of dependence on govt over – Gaidam

Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe State yesterday distributed take off materials and equipment to 392 youths trained by the state government on skills acquisition at the Institute of Youth Development.
In a ceremony in Damaturu, the governor said 2,892 youths were trained at the institute so far on various skills  including carpentry, welding, knitting, fashion designing and computer.
The governor said materials worth N115 million were procured and given  to the graduates free to help them set up their own businesses in order to support themselves and their families.
Gaidam urged people of the state to consider the task of developing Yobe a collective responsibility, saying the era of complete dependence on government for the provision of all services was over.
“The intervention measures will reduce poverty, create jobs and empower the youths to support and cooperate in pulling the economy of the state”, he said.
Gaidam also yesterday swore in Alhaji Baba Mallam Wali as the Secretary to the State Government and Alhaji Mohammed Grema as Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health.
Gaidam described the new SSG as a seasoned administrator with decades of public service experience that fits the requirements of the office.
