Conducting newsmen round the community in company of other leaders and traditional ruler of the community, the Government Liaison Officer (GLO) of the area, Chief Dennis C. Nnamuka, lamented that the situation has gotten out of hand this year.
He regretted that the only road into the community has become impassable despite the huge investment of government to check flooding and erosion in the area.
Nnamuka pointed out that the erosion menace and the bad road have gone out of hand considering the heavy rainfall being experienced this year.
He appealed to Governor Rochas Okorocha to declare Ibeoma-Ekwe a disaster area, adding that the situation has gone beyond the people of the community.
He urged government to carry out a total reconstruction of the Njaba bridge linking Okudor-Uburukwe-Mbazu-Umuanunike-Ibeomaekwe-Umuilem Umudibia Ekwe road, adding that for several decades now, they have spent almost N10 million yearly to tame erosion.
The traditional ruler of the community, Eze Hyacinth Ibegbulam Okorojo, said already, some families have being sacked from their community due to the incessant flooding, urging that the area be declared a disaster area.
