“Efforts are ongoing to complete a spill clean-up of the wellhead slot, a proper securement and the subsequent installation of subsurface downhole plugs,” said spokesperson of Eroton, Mercy Max-Ebibai.

Eroton further said that both spills were due to willful sabotage.

Max-Ebibai, who noted that the clean-up exercise would be wrapped up at the earliest possible time, added that there was a preliminary Joint Investigative Visit (JIV) with stakeholders, including NOSDRA, Ministry of Environment and the host community, on July 15, with the intent to estimate spill volume and Post-Spill Impact Assessment (PSIA).
