The national office AEAN is based in Lagos. The association is designed to bring together and identify those doing estate agency as well as curb quackery in the sector.
Many estate agents have been either arrested and detained by the police or arraigned in court following allegations of underhand deals.
Many of them have been fingered in land racketeering especially in Abuja.
Adamu Kasimu is chairman of the Abuja chapter of the association.
Mr Emeka Eleh, president of Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) who inaugurated the new AEAN officials said the association is meant to protect the estate agents stressing, “It’s not only agents that dupe, landlords also dupe agents”.
The national chairman of AEAN, Mr Chudi Ubosi emphasised that individual estate agent must uphold ethical standards.
According to him, each registered member will be issued a registration number for identification.
The Director of Department of Resettlement and Compensation, Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Mr Francis Okechukwu who was Special Guest of Honour told the estate agents that once Property Tax is introduced in FCT, government will collaborate with them to collect the tax.
He charged them to be noble and always keep their records straight.
