Hard times currently await quacks and professionals engaging in unethical practices in the estate surveying and valuation practice in Nigeria following the inauguration of the Disciplinary Tribunal for the Estate Surveyors and Valuers Registration Board of Nigeria’s (ESVARBON).

The inauguration of the tribunal became a reality following a nod received from the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Mr. Walter Onnoghen recently.

After weeks and months of expectations, the tribunal finally took off with its inauguration at the Lagos office of ESVARBON, Alausa-Ikeja by Senior Lawyer, Barr. Kenneth Ahia, an assessor appointed by the CJN to guide the tribunal on matters of law and procedure.

Chairman of ESVARBON, Sir. Nweke Umezuruike also chairs the tribunal with other elders and leaders of the profession as members of the tribunal.

Umezuruike said with the inauguration of the tribunal, ESVARBON was now more invigorated to wield the big stick against erring members and quacks parading themselves as professionals.

According to him, the board would now pursue any matter of professional misconduct that comes to its cognizance without necessarily receiving a formal complaint.

“The board does not just hold the big stick, it is willing to wield the big stick. We are no longer a toothless bulldog. The board has the teeth. The board and the tribunal will use the teeth which the law has given us,”  he said.
