‘Ethiopia achieved unusual growth in 10 years’

The envoy stated this in Abuja on Wednesday night at the occasion of the 23rd anniversary of the establishment of a Federal Democratic Republic in Ethiopia. He said the country was able to achieve a double-digit economic growth in the last decade and became one of 10 fastest economic growth countries in the world.
Besides, Suleiman said being one of the top three countries gaining food security; Ethiopia has achieved the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to cut children mortality under age five, three years ahead of the 2015 deadline.
According to him, in order to join middle income group, the country in 2010 embarked on a five-year Growth and Transformation Plan which contained mega social projects such as 2100 kilometres railway, ten new sugar industries, a fertilizer industry, power projects which include the Great Ethiopia Renaissance Dam with 6000mw capacity. He said the Renaissance Dam project will be the largest in Africa and the 7th largest in the world by generating capacity.
The envoy noted that Ethiopia’s policy concerning Nile is cooperation, equitable and reasonable utilization of water and will not affect the interest of other countries.
Suleiman also said in the past 23 years, Ethiopia is in peace with all its neighbours except Eritrea in which it is ready for dialogue for a lasting solution.
He however said that Ethiopia has been contributing its best for peace and stability of the continent and in the horn of Africa in particular.
The ambassador also said according to the 2013 United Nations department of peacekeeping operations report, Ethiopia is the 4th largest contributor behind Bangladesh, Pakistan and India.
