According to a statement from the commission in Brussels, Belgium yesterday, the European Commissioners for Development and Trade Policy, AndrisPiebalgs and Karel De Guchtwelcomed Foreign Affairs Council conclu-sions confirming new EU sup-port.
“… at least €6.5 billion has been confirmed for the Economic Part-nership Agreement Development Programfor West Africa during the period 2015-2020,” the statement reads.
The fund is believed will enhance trade and investment flow to West African countries thus contributing to their development, sustainable growth and poverty reduction.
The program is an essential element of the Economic Partner-ship Agreement (EPA) negotiated with West Africa, and will provide funding for projects linked to trade, industry, transport and energy infrastructure in the region, as well as through support to civil society.
