EU commits fund to African troops in CAR

The Political and Security Committee of the EU on Thursday endorsed a request from the African Union addressed to the Union for funding of €50 million for the African-led International Support Mission in the CAR (AFISM-CAR).
In a statement by the European Commissioner for Development Andris Piebalgs, from the Union’s Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, the AFISM CAR will work and  tabilize the country and protect its citizens.
“The AFISM-CAR will contribute to the stabilization of the country and the protection of local populations, creating conditions conducive to the provision of humanitarian assistance and the reform of the security and defence sector,” the statement said.
