Three new projects have been commissioned in Bakassi LGA  and Calabar Municipal Council Cross River State by an NGO. 

The projects were completed with support from the European Union and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). 

The projects include a town council hall at Ikot Nkese community and a motorised borehole drilled at Akpap Okon Ene Ita, Bakassi LGA. 

The third project, which includes a 40ft armoury tent (arms storage facility), was donated to the  state command  of  the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA)  at the command’s headquarters Calabar for arms storage. 

The projects were implemented by Leadership Initiative for Transformation and Empowerment (LITE-Africa) and the  National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW). 

Joel Bisina of LITE-AFRICA, represented  by Tolu Oyero, said they were micro projects meant  to boost development and bring sustainable peace to the border communities 

He also disclosed that there is provision for training of 150 livelihood beneficiaries in Cross River and Akwa Ibom States, adding that 55 ex-militants have so far benefited from training and empowered with start-up packs in various trades. 

Village head of Akpap Okon Ene Ita, chief Efiom Ita, who spoke on behalf of his community, thanked them for the project. 

He appealed to the organisation to also provide electricity to the community  in order to raise the standard of living in the area.
