EU is a Union which operates through a hybrid system of supranational and intergovernmental decision-making process.  The seven principal decision-making bodies—known as the institutions of the European Union—are the European Council, the Council of the European Union, the European Parliament, the European Commission, the Court of Justice of the European Union, the European Central Bank, and the European Court of Auditors.
To this extend, any Britain former colony which Nigeria is included are expected to enjoy certain rights and privileges as well as foreign policies that may have direct socio-economic effects.
But after the last week’s EU referendum in which Britain’s voted out of the long married union ship and since then the news continue to hamper around the globe, this is just coming in after the recent crises which the union has been battling over, which of course according to many foreign affairs analysis result is showing a more breakup is likely to take place.
But as for the Nigerian position in the case maybe is similar to that of a boy who’s father divorces his mother from a house. Many EU missions in Nigeria are likely to either be cancelled or will operate poorly, Nigeria has been enjoying lot of privileges from the EU missions in the country, ranging from educational, agricultural, health, and many social service.
Now Nigeria has to witness the result of Britain decision over the EU referendum like the wise man says “a child taking paradol for the headache of his mother”. This just another effect of neo-colonialism according Walter Rodney in his famous book “HOW EUROPE UNDER DEVELOP AFRICA” and going by his book, we yet to see more of such. Finally I wish this will serve as a wake-up call to all colonies is high time we come together and recognized and develop our local policies and ideas for our self-developments
