Nine young Nigerians have been picked at the end of Ejike Ugboaja FC (EUFC) invitational tournament to jet out of the country to join their new clubs abroad.

The three-day tournament commenced on Monday in Area 3 playing ground, Abuja, where teams from Abuja and Lagos were featured.

No fewer than 70 players participated in the program but only nine of them: Aliyu Umar, Kasim Longcat, Mohammed Raheem, Salihu Abdulafeez, Musa Baba, Idris Kyari, Joshua OdiriChukwu, Habeeb Ishiak and Williams Goodluck, were picked by the scouts.

Two of EUFC’s players are currently plying their trade with Apolonia FK in Albania, after being picked in last year’s edition of the EUFC scouting program.

Naim Halili, Sports Director of Kukesi FK who led the pack of scouts to the EUFC invitation tournament said that Nigerians have raw football talents but lack the needed program to groom the players for Europe’s market.

He said that if the right facilities and training programmes were to be injected into the Nigerian football space, the country would dominate football in the world.

He urged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, in collaboration with private investors to build modern football facilities in the capital city and make Abuja a sports destination, stressing that football is a big business and must be taken as such.
