Renowned Nigerian evangelist and founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, has died at the age of 80.
His death was confirmed in a statement issued by his family on Monday.
According to the announcement, the revered preacher passed away on October 6, 2025, after decades of dedicated service to Christian ministry and humanitarian work.
The family described his passing as a “glorious transition” from a life of devotion to eternal rest, noting that he lived a life fully committed to the gospel and to the spiritual growth of others.

“He was a faithful soldier of the cross who devoted his life to spreading the gospel with passion and integrity. His teachings, prophetic insights, and mentorship have left a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire believers for years to come,” the statement read in part.
Rev. Ukpai was widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most influential Christian leaders.
Over a ministry career spanning more than six decades, he was known for his large-scale crusades, evangelistic outreaches, and teaching programmes that attracted audiences across Africa and beyond.
Through the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, he championed faith-based initiatives, community development efforts, and leadership training for pastors and lay Christians. His ministry also supported education and humanitarian causes, reflecting his belief in holistic service to God and humanity.
Beyond his global ministry, Ukpai was celebrated as a mentor to many within and outside the Christian community. He was often described as a man of deep faith, humility, and compassion, whose work helped shape modern Pentecostal evangelism in Nigeria.
The family, while expressing gratitude for his life and legacy, said details of his burial arrangements would be announced at a later date.
“Though we mourn his physical absence, we rejoice that he has finished his race and is now resting in eternal praise,” the statement added.
Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai’s influence extended far beyond the pulpit. His ministry’s emphasis on prayer, faith, and the transformative power of the gospel continues to impact churches and individuals across generations.
He is survived by his wife, family members, and a global community of followers who regard his life as a testament to the biblical words in Philippians 1:21: “To live is Christ, and to die is gain.”
