Our esteemed President undoubtedly means well for the poor and the country at large. He respects the rule of law and prioritizes the interest of the public above all else. I am certain the love he holds for us trumps the one we have for him.
Nevertheless, he has his weaknesses like every other human being. To me, it is only to be expected that some may understand while the majority will not, due to our inherently existing individual differences.
PMB is old and weak now. He needs to work less and delegate more as suggested by the veteran writer Dr Aliyu U Tilde in a recent article of his. Though we all agree that corruption in Nigeria cannot be stamped out in just 8 years, the vigor with which it is thriving on in every sector and institution is very horrendously devastating. If decisive actions are not taken, the younger generations would be more corrupt than the present and past generations. As a way forward, I always propose grooming of the young generation for the continuance of the fight against corruption and the sustainability of economically viable initiatives. PMB needs to demonstrate his full understanding of the enormity of this by grasping the nettle. He needs to establish the solid foundation the fight against corruption needs to outlive him by grooming younger generations.
We love the president, but we love Nigeria more. I strongly believe in him, but I have an opinion contrary to other people’s. PMB should accept that it is time he becomes relieved of the burden of the presidency. He should therefore not re-contest in 2019. He has his health to look after to be able to play the role of a statesman that becomes him best. Nigeria needs a much younger and more vibrant President.
I apologize, but I have to say that if ‘the unwished’ should happen, are we then going to be so pessimistic to think that Nigeria will never prosper? Are we going to be so unrealistic to think that among the approximately 170 million Nigerians, there is no one that can match up to PMB?
PMB has allowed the VP to preside over the affairs of the country as the Acting President, as enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution that the Vice President shall take over in the absence or incapacity of the President. Some people have recently started to highlight the supposed difference between PMB’s leadership style and the VP’s, unjustly giving the entire credit to the VP while belittling and even blaming his boss. They claim that the VP is outdoing PMB, which I don’t think is possible to prove. Hasn’t the VP been heading the economic team ever since? Why is it only now that the Niger Delta people are eulogizing the VP, the demonstrators are quitting, the vandalizers are keeping off, electricity stabilizing and so on?
I end my statement by saying: Arewa people need to reunite under the leadership of one man. And that cannot be achieved with selfishness and greediness. Therefore, we should start looking for an alternative.
May Allah make this four-year tenure of PMB a successful one. May he grant him good health and may he protect him from all evil.
