The National/State House of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Awka, Anambra State, has dismissed the petition filed by the immediate past speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Mrs. Rita Maduagwu of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) against Johnbosco Akaegbobi  of PDP.

Mrs Maduagwu had petitioned the tribunal challenging the outcome of Nnewi South, State House of Assembly election.

The petitioner alleged that the election was marred with irregularities, including over voting and non-compliance with the Electoral Act.

She prayed that the tribunal declared her the winner or order a fresh election.

In a unanimous decision, the tribunal chairman, Justice Esther Haruna, described the petition as incompetent and lacking in merit.
