The former National Youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sadiq Abubakar, has defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and declared his intention to contest the Gombe State governorship election under the party’s platform.

Abubakar, who disclosed this during an interaction with journalists in Bauchi on Thursday, explained that his decision to join the NDC followed extensive consultations with political associates, friends, and family.

He described the NDC as one of the few political parties left with “true integrity.”

It will be recalled that the former youth leader resigned from the APC last week, citing the economic hardships faced by many Nigerian households due to what he termed “difficult policies and programmes” implemented by the ruling party.

Abubakar noted that his move to the NDC was driven by a desire for a transparent political environment.

He expressed confidence that the party offers a level playing field for securing a free and fair victory in future primaries, allowing him to continue serving the people with “strength and integrity.”

Emphasizing his faith in the NDC’s internal processes, Abubakar stated: “This is a political party where members are treated fairly and equally. It is a party where the mandates of members are not stolen or suppressed in favor of preferred individuals.

‘’Whatever methods the party adopts to select candidates—whether through primaries or consensus—will be accepted in good faith. This is a party with a clearer vision and the compassion needed to help the common man.”
