A 39-year-old ex-convict, Kingsley Emeaghara, who allegedly attacked a hotel employee and customers on Thursday appeared before a Grade I Area Court in Kubwa, Abuja.

Emeaghara, who lives in Kubwa, Abuja, was charged with inciting public peace, assault and causing hurt.

The Prosecution Counsel, Babajide Olanipekun, told the court that the complainant, David Angbaka, who worked in Ignobis Hotel, Kubwa, reported the matter at the Kubwa Police Station on January 5.

Olanipekun alleged that the defendant attacked and inflicted injuries on the complainant’s face and that he (defendant) also chased customers away from the hotel,  thereby causing the hotel management a loss of N19,000.

The prosecution counsel said the complainant, following the attack, was taken to the Kubwa General Hospital where he spent N3,000 on medical bills.

Olanipekun told the court that the defendant had previously been convicted and sentenced for a similar offence.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 113, 265 and 247 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Defence Counsel, Taiye Okoya, made a bail application for his client, saying he was presumed innocent until proven otherwise.

The judge, Muhammad Adamu, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000, with one reasonable surety who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and adjourned the case to July 31. (NAN)
