An Abeokuta magistrates’ court in Ogun State yesterday sentenced a 24-year-old ex-convict, Segun Durojaiye, to three years imprisonment for stealing a Tecno phone valued at N55,000

Earlier, the prosecutor, Olakunle Shonibare, told the court that the ex-convict committed the offence on October 23, on Isiaka Street, Elite Road, Abeokuta.

Shonibare said the ex-convict scaled the compound of one Mr Oludara Gbenga and stole his Tecno phone valued at N55,000 which he kept inside his car.

He further said, “Durojaiye took the phone to a phone operator to help him unlock it. The phone operator asked him to go and come back.

“When the phone operator opened the phone, he noticed several pictures of the complainant and not the defendant who brought the phone.

“The phone operator then called a contact in the phone to inform the complainant about his missing phone.

“When Durojaiye returned back to collect the phone from the operator he was arrested and handed over to the police.”

Shonibare disclosed that the defendant was earlier arraigned on September 30 for a similar offence and was convicted to serve a two-week community service within the court’s premises.

Magistrate Olajumoke Somefun, who noted that Durojaiye “is an unrepentant criminal who enjoys the pleasure of committing crimes and not willing to change”, sentenced him to three years without an option of fine.
