A Benin Magistrate Court has sentenced one David James to three years imprisonment for vandalising equipment belonging to Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) in Edo state.
The 26-year-old convict, who admitted to have served a jail term of one year and six months in prison for vandalizing cable in 2005, was arraigned on a two-count charge of stealing armoured cable wires and three transformer bushes spindles valued at about N500,000.
James was said to have committed the offence on December 22, 2019 along Upper Ekewan road, Benin. According to the charge sheet, James was caught by members of Bedekeme community in Obaji off Ugbiyoko quarters. The convict, who pleaded guilty to the charge, said he wanted to sell the vandalized items before he was arrested. Delivering her ruling, Magistrate Mrs. E.A Aghedo, sentenced him to three years imprisonment without an option of fine.
