Retired police officers numbering about twenty five stormed Jigawa State Police Command yesterday demanding explanation for nonpayment of their benefit after about two years of retirement from service.

One of the ex-cop, Inspector, Abubakar Mohammed (rtd),  told Kano Chronicle that he retired from service for barely two years now but he could not receive his entitlements.

He lamented that since after he left service, life was very unbearable as even to feed his family was impossible adding, his family was at the verge of being thrown out from their ranted accommodation for failure to pay rent.

"18 months after retirement no single kobo was given to us as gratuity or monthly pension,” Mohammed said, adding that, "It is difficult to feed my family these days. Most of my children have been sent away from school while my landlord is on the verge of ejecting me because I can’t pay my rent."

Corporal Musa Ibrahim, who retired as a police spy said, he had turned to a beggar because he could not afford medication for his failing sight and that his condition was deteriorating by the day.

The 60 year old ex-cop also told this reporter that it was unfortunate for people like him to receive such inhuman treatment after more than 30 years of meritorious service to their fatherland.

"I retired as a spy officer about 18 months ago, but up to this time, I could not get my benefit. After several years of active service, I’ve turned to begging on the streets before I could feed my family."

When contacted, the Command’s Spokesman, SP Abdul Jinjiri assured the retired officers that  the state commissioner of police  would forward their grievance  to the  appropriate authority for necessary action.
