The senator who represented the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the 9th Senate, Philip Tanimu Aduda, has formally announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Aduda arrived at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja accompanied by hundreds of supporters. He immediately entered a closed-door meeting with the party’s National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda.

Speaking to newsmen after the meeting, a visibly excited Aduda stated that he intends to mobilize a significant number of voters for President Bola Tinubu in the forthcoming 2027 presidential election.

“I have a lot of support for the President in the 2027 general election,” Aduda said. “As the state chairman rightfully noted, I was the ‘problem’ here—any time there was a challenge in winning an election, it had to do with me.

“I have decided to align and realign myself to work for Mr. President. I am sure we will be close to victory by the special grace of God; it will not be difficult.”

He further referenced recent local successes as a template for future wins:

“You saw what happened during the last Area Council elections. We collaborated and won five out of six seats. I can assure you that it will be six over six in the presidential election. By the special grace of God, we will deliver for Mr. President in 2027.”

In his remarks, the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, expressed his satisfaction with the defection, welcoming the former senator into the party’s fold.

Sources suggest that the FCT Minister may have influenced Aduda’s move to the APC to position him for a Senate run in the 2027 general elections.

Wike has publicly criticized Senator Kingibe’s performance on several occasions, claiming her perceived “distance” from her constituents will prevent her from returning to the Red Chamber.

Aduda’s exit marks a significant blow to the PDP in the FCT, where he served as a dominant political figure for over a decade.
