The immediate past chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, Alhaji Abubakar Jibrin Giri, has picked the APC nomination and expression of interest forms to contest in the March 2019 FCT area councils’ elections.

Giri sought reelection in the April 16, 2016 area councils’ elections but lost to the incumbent chairman of the council, Adamu Mustapha, who won on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

The former chairman, who was accompanied by a former council secretary, Alhaji Usman Yahaya, APC chapter chairman, Alhaji Hussaini Deze, among other supporters, collected the form at the state secretariat of APC in Abuja on Tuesday.

He said he was prevailed upon by elders, women groups and youths to contest for the chairmanship of the council.

He said there was no doubt that the people of Gwagwalada Area Council, especially rural dwellers, had seen what his administration put on ground during his first tenure, assuring that he would provide more dividends of democracy to them if he was given the mandate for a second time.

He said it was his desire to consolidate on  the achievements he recorded during his first tenure which ended in 2016, adding that rural electrification, health care services, roads construction were some of his administration’s legacies in 2016.

“I want to correct the impression that I am desperate to contest for chairman of Gwagwalada, it is due to too much pressure by stakeholders and my supporters across the 10 wards that I want to give it a shot again,” he said.
