A former Nigerian international, and General Manager of Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side, Barau FC, Dominic Iorfa, has been honoured with an award for excellence in football administration by the Nasarawa State Football Association (NSFA).

The award was presented to the former Queens Park Rangers and Galatasaray star on Monday, February 16, by the Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, during the Nasarawa State Governor’s Cup final at the Lafia City Stadium.

Iorfa, a renowned football administrator who ventured into administration after an illustrious playing career that took him to almost all the continents of the world has remained a significant figure administratively in Nigerian football since 1999.

For more than two decades, the BCC Lions, Abiola Babes and Ranchers Bees legend has delivered exemplary and extraordinary knowledge of football administration with tangible results.

Within this period, the legendary Iorfa has managed Lobi Stars FC on different occasions; served as the National U-20 Coordinator; was an NFF Board Member, and had a short stint with Remo Stars FC as General Manager.

At the moment, the director of NPFL youth programmes is the General Manager of Barau FC Kano, a side he has since transformed from relegation strugglers to a formidable team in the NPFL.

Receiving the award, Iorfa expressed deep appreciation to the Nasarawa State Government and the state FA for finding him worthy of recognition, stating that the award means more than words can express.

In a chat with Daily Trust, the former Peterborough United and Southend United of England said “I am motivated by the special recognition to do more for Nigerian football. It is an open secret that I have lived all my life for football and there is no cause for any regret.

“Although some of us have faced daunting challenges in the course of rendering selfless services to football, awards like this serve as a great incentive and motivation to keep pushing forward,” he said.

Iorfa, therefore, dedicated the award to God, his family, Barau FC, his associates, the Nigerian football fraternity, as well as players and backroom staff of his former clubs.
