The immediate past Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, on Wednesday picked the All Progressives Congress (APC) expression of interest and nomination forms to contest the 2027 governorship election in Bauchi State.

Our correspondent reports that the ex-minister resigned his appointment last month to pursue his gubernatorial ambition.

He arrived at the APC sales centre in Abuja accompanied by a large crowd of supporters to obtain the forms.

Speaking with journalists shortly after, Tuggar said he is in the race to better the lives of his people.

He promised to prioritize agriculture, assuring that the vast land with which the state is endowed will be converted to meaningful agricultural use.

“Hundreds of hectares lying fallow in the state will be converted into meaningful production. I will create an enabling environment for subsistence farmers to make use of those lands so that they can be lifted out of poverty,” he said.

Tuggar expressed hope that the primary process will be free and fair, regardless of the mode adopted by the party.

“Whether it is a direct primary or consensus, whatever model is adopted should be made free and fair,” he said.
