Former Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday at his Ward 7 Secretariat in Ondo West Local Government Area, Ondo City.

Mimiko, who recently resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was received by the Ward and Local Government Executives, the State Chairman of the party, and a large gathering of party faithful from across Ondo City.

Addressing the crowd during his defection, Mimiko stated that the performance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu influenced his decision to join the ruling party.

“There are a lot of good things being done by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led government,” Mimiko said. “Though much more remains to be done, I am coming in to lend my support to ongoing efforts to keep Nigeria on the path of peace, progress, and genuine development.”

He specifically highlighted the administration’s policy shifts as key drivers for his move:

“The NELFUND initiative to democratize access to education is a commendable effort by Mr. President that must be applauded. Furthermore, as an avowed supporter of State Police, the current effort to decentralize policing is another reason I am happy to be part of this movement under Mr. President.”

While many of Mimiko’s close associates moved to the APC prior to the last governorship election in Ondo State, the former governor had remained in the PDP, albeit in an inactive capacity, until his formal resignation over a month ago.

At the time of his resignation, he stated he needed to clear up speculations regarding his status, placing it on record that he was “no longer a member of the PDP.”

Mimiko was formally received into the party by the State Chairman of the APC, Hon. Kolawole Babatunde, alongside top party leaders from the Ondo East and West local government areas.
