A former ward chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), James Akase, alongside three others have been killed by armed invaders in separate incidents at their various communities in two LGAs of Benue State.

Witnesses said they were killed on Monday in separate attacks launched by armed invaders on the rural communities of Gwer West and Guma LGAs respectively.

The witnesses also said some people sustained injuries and were receiving treatment in various hospitals in the affected areas.

It was gathered that the ex-PDP ward chairman, Akase, who hailed from Tse-Defam, Mba’akov Vengav, Avihijime Council Ward of Gwer West LGA had long been displaced from his home by the invaders and that he met his death in their hands when he attempted to return in search of food for his family.

In Guma LGA, three people were killed same Monday during an attack on Tse Ikpe Ago, a village along the Yogbo-Gyungu Aze road in Mbayer/Yandev Council Ward, and Tse Kologa in Mbagune, Nyiev Council Ward.

Locals said at Tse Ikpe Ago, Bartholomew Ikornya was killed, while in Kologa village, Gabriel Korlaga and one Kunde were killed.

The chairman of Gwer West LGA, Victor Ormin, confirmed the killing of the PDP faithful to our correspondent on the phone, adding that another person was kidnapped within his domain same day and released in the night after his family rallied around to pay ransom.

Police spokeswoman, CSP Catherine Anene, did not respond to calls put through her phone for confirmation of the attacks.
