A former member of the House of Representatives, Barrister Herman Hembe, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Benue State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Hembe polled 46,526 votes to defeat his closest rival, Peter Idoko, who scored 31,990 votes, while Joseph Waya secured 26,919 votes in the party’s primary election concluded on Monday.
Returning Officer for the ADC Governorship Election, in the state, Victor Tukura, who announced the winner of the primary election, commended members of the party in the state for their support that brought about a peaceful election.
Speaking after his emergence, Hembe described the exercise as a fantastic history making primary and thanked the leadership of the party in the state for conducting a successful process.
He specifically commended Senator Emmanuel Oker Jev, chairman of the party’s leadership team, acting chairman Samson Okwu and other stakeholders for their roles in the exercise.
The former lawmaker said the overwhelming margin of victory showed the confidence party members had in his leadership, assuring supporters that he would not disappoint them.

He said his administration would focus on restoring peace in Benue communities, ensuring fiscal autonomy for local governments and promoting transparency in governance promising to end political infighting and run an inclusive government that would serve the interests of the people rather than a privileged few and accused the present administration of abandoning the law and allowing armed herders and bandits to terrorise communities across the state.
