A former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Gbenga Makanjuola, has formally declared his intention to contest for the Kwara South Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Makanjuola, in his declaration, said his decision was driven by a deep sense of responsibility and commitment to the development and unity of the district rather than personal ambition.

Addressing stakeholders, party leaders, traditional rulers and residents of Kwara South, the aspirant said his entry into the race followed years of engagement with communities across the senatorial district.

“This decision is not borne out of personal ambition, but from a long standing dedication to the unity, development and collective advancement of Kwara South. It is a response to the aspirations and yearnings of our people,” he said.

He recalled his political journey, including his role as deputy governorship candidate in the 2019 and 2023 elections, noting that the experience gave him first hand insight into the needs of the people.

According to him, his tenure as a two term member of the House of Representatives and his exposure to the workings of the National Assembly have equipped him with the capacity to deliver effective representation.

Makanjuola added that his time working closely with the leadership of the Senate, including his role as Deputy Chief of Staff to the President of the Senate, further strengthened his understanding of governance and policy coordination.

He said, “These experiences have strengthened my capacity to deliver effective representation and to attract meaningful development to our district.”

Highlighting his legislative and constituency record, the aspirant said he had sponsored and supported key bills, facilitated infrastructure projects, and promoted education through scholarships and other interventions.

He also pointed to empowerment programmes targeting youths and women as part of his contributions to grassroots development.

Outlining his vision for Kwara South, Makanjuola pledged to prioritise infrastructure, economic growth, education, agriculture, security and transparent governance.

“My vision is to accelerate infrastructural development, expand economic opportunities, strengthen education, support agricultural revolution, enhance security and promote inclusive and responsive governance,” he said.

He emphasised that legislative service must go beyond lawmaking to include effective representation, accessibility and accountability to constituents.

The APC aspirant called on stakeholders, including youths, women, community leaders and traditional institutions, to support his ambition.

“Together, we can build a future that reflects our shared dreams and collective aspirations,” he added.

Makanjuola also sought collaboration with development organisations and community groups to drive sustainable progress in the district.

He pledged to serve as a “Hope Ambassador,” promising to bridge the gap between public expectations and measurable development outcomes if elected.
