Ex-security guard in court for allegedly stealing 2 batteries, 88 litres of diesel

The police on Wednesday arraigned a 25-year-old , ex-security guard Ibrahim Sulaiman, in a Zuba Upper Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly stealing two generator batteries and 88 litres of diesel.

The police charged Sulaiman, who lives on First Avenue, Gwarinpa Abuja, with theft.

The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Chinedu Ogada, told the court that Mr Uche Solomon of Gwarinpa, reported the matter at yje Gwarinpa Police Station on June 19.

Ogada said that Sulaiman was employed to work as security guard and to secure the complainant’s shop at Gwarinpa, Abuja.

He said that one June 17 the complainant discovered that the defendant had stolen two generator batteries valued at N 48, 000 and 88 litres of diesel, valued at N19,000.

Ogada alleged that Sulaiman deliberately neglected his duty post from June 14 to June 17, without permission from his employer, after he collected his salary.

The prosecutor said that the defendant was arrested during police investigation, but could not give satisfactory account of himself nor the missing items.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 346 and 288 of the Penal Code.

After the charge was read to him, he pleaded not guilty.

The Judge, Alhaji Gambo Garba, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N50, 000, with one surety in like sum.

Garba ordered that the surety must reside within the jurisdiction of the court and his address must be verified by the prosecutor.

He adjourned the case until July 18, for hearing. (NAN)
