The outing which was hosted by the African Artists’ Foundation (AAF) featured works of Emmanuel Dudu, Agbara Titus, Nsek Joe, Imoesi Imhonigie, Asuku Musa, Ola Balogun, Franklin Enebeli and Klaranze Okhide.

With the president of the Society of Nigerian Artists, Mr. Uwa Usen declaring the exhibition open, guests were amazed at the works of the artists created in the last ten years.

The exhibition which ran till last Monday enabled guests to see a younger generation of the Auchi art school and appreciate their mode of expression.

The AAF also announced that it will be holding the third edition of her annual arts competition.

This year’s edition tagged, ‘Chronicles of a great nation at 50’ is being organised by the Foundation in collaboration with Transcorp Hilton and the Nigerian breweries and is aimed at talent hunt for young and upcoming artists.

Throwing more light on the competition, the Assistant Director of the AAF, Ms. Zainab Ashadu, said, “This year’s competition aims to leverage on the unique platform of Nigeria’s golden jubilee to focus on emerging and upcoming artists in Nigeria with the aim of offering them the opportunity with which to grow and develop their careers as artists.

“This year, thirty finalists will be selected to participate in an initiative workshop with the aim of cultivating and developing the innate talent of the participating artists.”

Speaking on her participation, the Public Affairs Manager, Mr. Yusuf Baba, said, “The Annual Nigerian Breweries/AAF National Arts Competition was conceptualised to discover young talents and empower them.

In the same light, the Public Relations Manager of the Transcorp Hilton, Mr. Shola Adeyemo said the hotel agreed to partner with the AAF on the competition largely due to the multiplier effects it has on the economy. Transcorp, he said, has over the years supported several youth empowerment initiatives including sponsoring artists abroad and will continue to do so.

The scope of the exhibition will include more contemporary genres of new media, photography, installation art, multimedia and video art in addition to the traditional genres of painting and sculpture.
