Former Super Eagles captain, Austin Jay Jay Okocha, Tijani Babangida, Garba Lawal, Victor Ikpeba and a host of other former Nigerian internationals entertained football fans on Wednesday when they slugged it out with former Shooting Stars players in a novelty match to commission the remodelled Lekan Salami Sport Complex, Ibadan.

Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde who featured for ex-Shooting Stars team put his side in front from the penalty spot before former PSG star, Okocha also levelled scores from the spot for the match to end 1-1.

The other friendly match between Shooting Stars and Slovenian club Tabor Sezena was a one way traffic affair as the home side won 4-0.

Speaking on why the sporting edifice was remodelled, Governor Makinde said he discovered that there are sporting talents in the youths who are waiting to be nurtured to stardom.

“We discovered that our youths are talented so we decided to create opportunities for them to develop their God given talents. We will also ensure that Shooting Stars FC recover its lost glory in football,” he said.

Former Vice President , Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki, Ondo State governor, Rotimi Akredolu and former governor of Oyo State, Adebayo Alao Akala who were at the commissioning ceremony commended Governor Makinde for remodelling the sports complex to international stadium.

Atiku said “I congratulate the governor and the people of the state. Ibadan can now host international tournaments. This achievement is not only in the area of sports facilities but in other areas of infrastructural development.”
