The sultan also stressed the need for the reinvigoration of teachers’ colleges as well as the National Teachers Institute to ensure better training for teachers. He was addressing Muslim faithful at his palace on this year’s Eid festival. The royal father commended the Sokoto State government for the monthly grant it introduced, noting that it would curtail begging among destitute, making them to become self-reliant.

The sultan also called on Islamic scholars to intensify efforts towards educating Muslims on their religion and cautioned against acts that could cause disunity among them. He stressed the need for Muslims to continue to live in peace with one another irrespective of any differences.

The Sultan also advised parents to encourage their wards to pursue both Islamic and western education so as to become responsible members of the society. He also called on relevant authorities to look into the possibility of reducing the number of days pilgrims spend in Saudi Arabia after completing their Hajj rites, noting that it will go a long way towards reducing the sufferings of pilgrims who might have exhausted their basic travel allowance.
