Children drawn from different schools in Osun State on Saturday thrilled the people of the state who thronged the Osogbo City Stadium to watch the calisthenic display competition organised to mark the 7th year anniversary of the administration of Governor Rauf Aregbesola in the state.
Speaking on the occasion, Aregbesola noted that his administration was encouraging extracurricular activities in schools in the state to help the children to develop well, mentally and physically and that the calisthenic would also imbibe the spirit of teamwork in the children.
His words, "Extracurricular activities in schools including calisthenic would help bring discipline, unity of purpose and sense of responsibility among students. "
He said calisthenic which was first introduced in Osun state in 2012 was intended to promote good character and competency among the school children.
Aregbesola said "We introduce calisthenic display sometimes in October 2012 in order to raise the educational consciousness of our children. It was misrepresented by some political gladiators. Today, all of us can see the beauty of this exercise as displayed by the children".
