Expert calls for enforcement of law against deforestation

The National Vice President (North-Central) of the Environmental Health Officers Association of Nigeria, Solomon Anyegwu made the call, recently, in Lokoja, while speaking with Daily Trust on the negative effect of deforestation.
He said the enforcement of the law was necessary because a trees has a way of regulating the temperature of environment and the impurity in the atmosphere.
He said: “Trees are also raw materials that are used by pharmaceutical industries. They use the leaves, bark of tree and roots to produce drugs. Today, trees are indiscriminately felled and this is affecting our health because drugs that should have been manufactured from the trees are not there. So, it goes a long way to affect pharmaceutical industries.”
He advocated for enlightenment and sensitisation campaign by various environment agencies across the country to educate people on the dangers and negative effects of tree felling.
