Acting Registrar of the institute, Durosinlorun  Abdusalam ,who expressed this in Lagos at the stakeholders meeting of testing laboratory analysts and providers of support services, attributed the development to huge cost of setting up laboratories as well the challenges posed by repair and installation of labs.
He said that setting up laboratories is also challenged by epileptic power supply, poor patronage as well as fake and adulteration of equipment.
The acting registrar said: “As overwhelming as these might seem, analysts have to practice and laboratories need to be equipped for testing. The equipment should also be able to deliver on anticipatory promise that necessitated their purchase.
“The analysts therefore require full information on analytical equipment. To get it, he relies on marketers or manufacturers’ representatives for guide. Nothing short of adequate information would give value for money, protect integrity and prosper business.”
Speaking at the meeting, Managing Director of Alpha Chemicom Limited, Kaduna , Mr. Patrick Anyameluhor, said the biggest problem that the IPAN Private Practitioner has is the tools of analysis and adulterated chemicals in the market.
He said the development makes unscrupulous businessmen bottle industrial chemicals and sell them as Analar products in the market.
He challenged IPAN to look into equipment standardisation and calibration as well as regulation of the sales of laboratory chemicals in the country.
