An environmentalist, Ms Gloria Bulus, has called for increased sensitisation of Nigerians to climate change concerns to mitigate its effects.

Bulus, the founder of Bridge-that-Gap Initiative, a non-profit organisation, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Lagos.

She noted that all hands must be on deck to mitigate the effects of climate change on the environment.

Bulus said: “To promote environmental sustainability, we must live by example and reflect sustainability for others to follow.

“We need to create a basic understanding of climate change realities for the laymen and the impact it has in the environment.

“While we cannot reduce climate change impacts to zero, we must help people especially communities by supporting adaption and mitigation to the effects of climate change through sensitisation.

“We must make the willingness to solve the climate crisis a priority and know that to solve the crisis, all hands must be on deck.

“We can sensitise more Nigerians to live sustainably through mass media advocacy. The media should stand as a strong support system for climate change sensitisation,” she said.

Bulus also proffered measures on how Nigerians could be sensitised on the current realities of climate change and its effects on the environment and mankind.

She said that climate change sensitisation could begin from infancy when inculcated in our school curriculums and programmes. (NAN)
