Quantity surveyors have been charged to improve their dynamic capabilities as opposed to core competence if they are to survive the stiff competition in the built industry and the business environment in general.

Professor Charles Egbu made the recommendation at the one-day seminar on the dynamism of Quantity Surveying Precession organized by  Women Association of Quantity Surveyors of Nigeria (WAQSN) at the weekend in Lagos.

Professor Egbu who gave the keynote lecture said, “When working in a competitive environment, there are other skills set surveyors need to draw on to be relevant.

“Surveyors must understand  the market and the business of the client as well as the whole lifecycle costing to be taken seriously,” he said.

The President of the Nigerian Institute of Surveyors (), Mrs Mercy Iyortyer admonished women professional surveyors to approach the profession with renewed vigour, new skills and competences.

She said, “The task of maintaining high professional and ethical standards is what we all need to set for ourselves individually and we must take the bold step to move on with renewed drive.”

 

The event also witnessed the investiture of the 4th chairperson of WAQSN, Professor (Mrs) Olubola Babalola, the first female professor of Quantity Surveying in the whole of Africa which was also followed by the swearing-in ceremony of other executive members of WAQSN.
