Shamonda made the call at the 9th session of the Nigeria National Committee for UNESCO-IHP which held recently in Abuja.
He said though the interface has the aim of improving the principles of integrated water resources management, it should be carefully looked at.
“It suffices to say that the recent UNESCO strategic and high level meeting on water security and cooperation was very instructive, the consensus at the meeting was that cooperation and collaboration within a country and between countries are sine qua non for security,” he added.
Also speaking, Prof. Joseph Owolabi Ajayi, chairman of the committee, noted that efforts of the committee to implement its mandate were hampered by paucity of funds.
 “The executive has not been able to function optimally because of paucity of funds which has crippled the activities of the committee.”
