Kano Indigenous Waste Management Association (KIWMA), has held a sensitisation workshop on effective waste management in the state. 

The Chairman of the association, Dr Bala Muhammad Tukur, said the sensitisation was organised to create awareness on the challenges and dangers of indiscriminate waste disposal and to proffer solutions on how to tackle the menace.

“We invited people from the academia, other experts and stakeholders to discuss, educate and mobilise the public on the need to have proper waste management.

“The essence of the workshop is to invite all and sundry to put all their hands on deck to make sure we address the challenge,” he said. 

He explained that as service providers in the area, KIWMA is a coalition of companies that operate in waste management in the state adding that it was important for them to come together as the government could not do it alone. 

The Commissioner, Kano State Ministry of Environment, Alhaji Kabiru Ahmed Getso, represented by the Director of Operations of the ministry, Malam Sha’ayau Abdulkadir Jibrin, said the bold step taken by the association was timely and as regulators, they would help the association to achieve its mandates for the benefit of the state.
