Experts and civil society organisations working in the health sector Sunday urged the Federal Government to make local vaccine production a top governance priority.
They spoke in Abuja at a symposium organised by the West African Institute of Public Health (WAIPH) with the support of PACFaH at Scale, and in collaboration with other partners to mark the annual African Vaccination Week.

In their statement read by the Director-General of the West African Institute of Public Health, Dr Francis Ohanyido and the program advisor, Centre for Accountability and Inclusive Development, Jonathan Isah, they said: “Nigeria should think of leveraging the regional market which is either at the West Africa sub-regional level or the entire African region.
“There is need for the government to create an enabling environment that allows for local vaccines production. The technology can be expanded /transferred to the development of better, cheaper vaccines, and an opportunity to face our own problems such Lassa fever where required vaccines are not available.”
