Explosion: Gbenga Daniel’s hotel closes operations to honour victims

The management of the Conference Hotel owned by former Governor, Gbenga Daniel, in Abeokuta, Ogun State Wednesday announced temporary closure following a gas explosion on Tuesday.
The palatial hotel located near the State Secretariat at Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, was hit by an explosion, killing about four and injuring three.

Our correspondent gathered that the incident occurred during routine maintenance of the Automatic revolving Door at the entrance of the hotel reception.
It was further gathered the oxyacetylene gas being used to weld the door triggered an explosion.
Witnesses told our correspondent that the technician, his assistant and two workers of the hotel died during the incident, but the hotel management confirmed two dead and three injured during the incident.
A statement by the Hotel Facility Manager, Engr. Tunde Osinubi described the incident as regrettable.
When our correspondent visited the hotel on Wednesday, it was observed that the hotel had shut down its operations temporarily.
A terse statement displaced in front of the gate read “Dear esteemed guests, with regret to yesterday (Tuesday) ugly incident, there will be a temporary closure of Confidence Hotel, Abeokuta.”
The spokesman for the former Governor, Steve Oliyide, also confirmed to Daily Trust that the hotel had closed its operations in honour of the victims.
“Yes (we have closed operations temporarily) to honor the deceased and their families,” Oliyide said while responding to questions from our correspondent.
