Addressing journalists in Kano , the new Eze Igbo said unity and tolerance among the Igbos in the state became imperative as “nothing could be successfully achieved without unity.”

Pyramid Trust learnt that the succession crisis of Eze Ndigbo seat was triggered by the death of Chief O. T. Nnandi, the 3rd Eze who died in October last year, and the coronation of Chief Boniface Ibekwe as the 4th Eze in a colourful ceremony during the mourning period, an action described by some Igbo as abominable sin.

Also speaking during the presentation of the new Eze Ndigbo, the council secretary Alhaji Abdullahi Ndidi Obinwa told journalists that the ICA was happy to introduce to the people and the general public the ‘distinguished gentleman who has emerged as the successor to the throne.’

Abdullahi Obinwa revealed that the new Eze, Chief Chiejina Nnaji was the former President and Grand Patron, Enugu State Community Association, Kano, adding that legalisation of the appointment of the new Eze Ndi Igbo would culminate into his coronation by the emir of Kano in a near future.

Alhaji Obinwa stated that the transition came at a time when the institution of Eze Igbo in Diaspora was undergoing ‘stern review’ by the South-East Council of Traditional Rulers, which is the supreme collective source of Igbo traditional authority on earth.
