Central defender Uzochukwu Ezeobi has committed his future to newly promoted Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side, Barau FC, by signing a two-year contract extension. The new deal will keep him at the Kano-based outfit until the end of the 2027/28 season.
Ezeobi, who joined Barau FC in 2024, played an instrumental role in the club’s promotion campaign, anchoring the defense during the Nigeria National League (NNL) Super 8 playoffs. His commanding performances and leadership at the back have quickly made him a fan favorite and a cornerstone of the squad.
Before linking up with Barau FC, the dependable center-back had spells at Shekarau Babes and Zamfara United. With top-flight football now beckoning, Barau FC is expected to reinforce its ranks with fresh talent ahead of the 2025/26 NPFL season kickoff.
In a related development, veteran striker Alimi Sikiru is set for a move to former NPFL champions, Rivers United. Reports indicate the 29-year-old will undergo a routine medical before signing a one-year contract with the Port Harcourt-based club. Alimi recently parted ways with reigning champions Remo Stars following the expiration of his contract in June.
Rated among the league’s finest forwards, Alimi has previously featured for Shooting Stars, Lobi Stars, and Sunshine Stars. He is currently on international duty with Nigeria.
Meanwhile, Kwara United resumed training ahead of the 2025/26 NPFL campaign. The Harmony Boys returned to action on Monday at the Rashidi Yekini Mainbowl, George Innih Stadium, following a short break after clinching the 2025 President Federation Cup.
Under the guidance of technical adviser Tunde Sanni, Kwara United will face non-league side Blimz FC in a friendly today (Tuesday) in Ilorin. The club will also represent Nigeria in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.
The 2025/26 NPFL season is scheduled to kick off on Friday, August 22.
