On Tuesday artists and art lovers witnessed the opening of the exhibition ‘A Box of Delights II’ a travelling exhibition, which showcased works of widely acclaimed artist, Bona Ezeudu, at the Thought Pyramid Centre, Abuja. 
The works treated various themes from culture to, justice, womanhood and even the kidnap of the Chibok girls and the Sambisa Forest phenomenon.
Abdullahi Muku, Director General of the National Gallery of Art who declared the exhibition open described the works as unique. He added that the NGA has affiliated itself with Ezeudu for years now, especially because of the artist’s excellence and dedication to the promotion of art in Nigeria which he said has influenced a lot of youngsters.
Speaking to Daily Trust, the artist said: “When we do works, we tell our story and also in the process, narrate history. This is the reason I chose to do works depicting the story of the Chibok girls.
A guest, Chidi Nwankwo an artist herself who encountered Ezeudu’s works from her childhood said she was happy to see the evolution of his style. “I began visiting his studio as a child in Enugu. His style has changed over the years and the works are getting more and more interesting with his strokes, colours and compositions.”
She added that: “A man changes due to conditions he encounters. It is remarkable that Ezeudu has reflected these positively in his works like, ‘Awaiting Trial’ which although is a small piece, is very deep.”
Curator of the exhibition, Iheanyi explained that this was the second edition of the exhibition. “The first was shown in 1995 in Lagos. There will be another on in Lagos later in the year.”
With works titled, ‘New planets,’ ‘Eke market on Oye Day,’ ‘Sambisa,’ ‘Boat Regatta’ and ‘Ikenga’ amongst others, Ezeudu has made a name for his experimental art form in paintings and ornamental wrought iron sculptures.
A member of the famous ‘Aka circle of artist,’ he had his first solo exhibition in 1982 and has had no less than 14 of such since then. The exhibition ends today.
